In many ways, the job of a home inspector closely resembles a detective. A sort of house detective. Even though there are many elements of a home that are easily accessible there are others that are not. Only through extensive training, skill and experience may problems be discovered. Tom Brick at Nustart Home Inspection in Salinas is a highly qualified real estate inspector with the homeowner’s best interest at heart. At Nustart, they understand that if you are going to invest your hard-earned money for a new home then you will want the best inspection possible.

Most potential homebuyers know very little about home construction, and have difficulty deciphering much of a home inspection report. For those buyers it’s prime time to brush up on the elements of Home Inspection 101.

According to the American Society of Home Inspectors, “the standard home inspector’s report will cover the condition of the home’s heating system; central air conditioning system (if applicable); interior plumbing and electrical systems; the roof, attic and visible insulation; walls, ceilings, floors, windows and doors; the foundation, basement and structural components.”

However, there are limits to what a home inspection covers. For example, they aren’t required to identify conditions that are concealed or are considered “latent defects.” This means that if the homeowner’s property, foliage or debris covers a potential issue, the inspector isn’t required to clear away the items upon inspection. This means it’s imperative that a homebuyer finds a trustworthy and thorough inspector.

Here’s what a homebuyer should look for in a home inspector:

Make sure the home inspection company carries proper insurance, and that they can they provide proof upon request.

Ask how many inspections the inspector completes a year.

Look for inspectors who undertake ongoing training to keep their skills current.

A quality home inspector should insist that you attend the home inspection and ask questions along the way.

Determine what type of report the inspector uses, the approximate length of the report, and whether photos are included.

Ask if the inspector uses the latest equipment, such as moisture meters, electronic devices, infrared cameras and dye for testing plumbing leaks.

Find out if the inspector will be readily available for follow-up questions.

In the end, hiring a trusted, qualified inspector like Nustart Home Inspections provides peace of mind during an exciting yet stressful time. That’s why they take the time to do it right. It’s for your family’s safety and your home investment security that you want to get a quality home inspection. Contact Nustart to schedule an appointment or request a quote.
